This one was tough to learn, I originally just wanted to learn the long sweeping/picking section. I spent a couple weeks on that, then when I went to record it I decided to learn more and more. Spent a whole day and late into the night working it out and recording each section. Video quality isn't great, but I wasn't trying to make a music video, I just wanted to document the process. Each cut is the take of the recorded track pieced together. There are better versions, but I'm still pretty happy with how this turned out.
When I have to pick one solo to show someone how I play, this is usually it. There are other solos that have moments I like better, but from start to finish, I think this does the best job of building ideas and working its way into the climax with the huge bend at the end. It also marked the point at which I fell in love with the sound of a tele.
Mateus Asato and Suhr put on a contest and this was my entry. I never expect to win these contests but I think they are fun to enter and they stretch my creativity. I never listen to another entry until I have finished mine. This solo is very much who I am as a player. Very laid back for the first 30 seconds and then it gets a little crazy. My favorite part is still the two behind the nut bends, one with the screaming harmonic and the other that slides into the legato lick.
